About Pilates
Pilates is both a physical and mental conditioning exercise programme. It was developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920's combining Eastern and Western forms of exercise and body movement. Today Pilates is rapidly becoming a household name because of the amazing benefits it offers.
Pilates uniquely combines stretching, breathing, posture and movement control. It's focused on improving flexibility and strength of the total body, dramatically improving posture and co-ordination, toning every muscle of the body whilst focusing on postural control and awareness during the exercises. The Pilates Method is not just exercise, however. It is a series of controlled movements engaging body and mind.
All this fine tuning of the musculoskeletal system can be achieved through elementa's mat group or one-on-one classes in the elementa Yoga and Pilates studio. Our dedicated professional will help you to develop a practice that fits your lifestyle and gets you the results you want.

Why elementa Pilates ?
At elementa, we individually tailor your exercise regime to your body's needs as well as your own personal goals, whether it's in a mat class or an individual mat Pilates session. Our instructors have worked with various Pilates methods and can help you with any fitness and rehabilitation needs you have.
Elementa Pilates classes are open to beginners and more adavanced Pilates students. The classes are small and our teachers ensure you are working at the level that is right for you. Our classes may include other elements to add to your Pilates practice, such as aerobics and gymnastic type movements for those who ongoingly participate in classes and want more of a challenge. However, each class enables you to go at your own pace and to do only do as much as you want.
Elementa Sports Pilates class. This class is for those students who wish to ramp up their Pilates training or who specifically wish to strengthen the core and build up strength, fitness and flexibility for a particular sport-from running, swimming to golf or tennis. Our experienced teacher will use weights, swiss balls and other equipment as well as classical pilates routines.
Elementa Swiss ball pilates class
This class is designed to challenge the "power centre" of your body by combining the methodologies seen in Swiss ball training, Stabilization training, and Pilates training. Its exercises safely provide an excellent means to develop core strength and stabilization, motor control, and muscle endurance, without adding bulk. You can expect an increase in flexibility, mobility, balance, and body awareness, as well as a decrease in back pain and other general pains.
The Pilates emphasis is on deep breathing and smooth long movements that encourage your muscles to relax and lengthen. Its primary focus is on strengthening the abdomen, lower back and buttocks. As a result it balances the muscles around the joints, improving the way your body functions, looks and feels.
The Stability Ball, also known as Swiss ball, is used as a well-rounded tool to stretch & strengthen the body. Its emphasis is to acquire and/or maintain perfect postural position. Hands on work by the instructor through verbal, visual & physical cueing will help guide you and re-educate the body to proper postural alignment.
The blending of these techniques invites you to come and discover a new approach to exercise that will encourage body awareness and promote efficient movement. Explore how this class will enhance your level of functional fitness because of improved balance, co-ordination & circulation. The result of such stabilization training is a strong flexible body.
Due to the non-impact nature of Pilates / Swiss Ball, it is suitable for the young and old, the physically active, and the sedentary.
PLEASE NOTE: Whilst we trial interest in this pilates on the ball class please book in advance. Additionally state whether you will need a swiss ball or can bring your own. Please bring your own swiss ball (and any spares) if possible. Currently we only have 4 balls available until new ones are purchased
