ELEMENTA CLASS STRUCTURE
We have structured our classes as Beginners/General classes as our teachers are able to manage all levels in the one class - apart from the early morning Ashtanga Vinyasa Mysore class where some experience of Ashtanga is recommended. We also offer pregnancy yoga classes, Yogalates and Pilates.
We also offer private yoga sessions and encourage those starting yoga for the first time to consider taking a private session(s) to enable you to get the most form your classes.
WHICH CLASS FOR YOU?
At elementa we teach both Hatha and Ashtanga yoga and Yogalates
HATHA YOGA:
Hatha yoga is based on the classical style of yoga; incorporating asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing) and yoga Nidra (a deep relaxation technique). .
A holistic approach is taken, with a focus not just on the physical movements but on breathing and awareness. The physical practice of Hatha yoga deepens awareness so that we may know and heal ourselves. Working different muscles in opposing ways challenges the limits of mind and body, ultimately stretching and centering both.
BEGINNER/GENERAL HATHA CLASSES : These classes are suitable for those with no yoga experience for those with some experience who wish to return to the basics and those wishing more challenging classes. In the classes we explore the fundamentals of posture, physical movement, breath and spinal awareness, core strength and put together many of the postures to enjoy the flow of surya namaskara , the sun salutation as well as other combinations of postures. There is a good emphasis on the standing postures, increasing overall body strength and energy.
Each class will incorporate breathing practice and relaxation technique.
ASHTANGA YOGA
Ashtanga yoga is a dynamic system which synchronizes breathing and movement. Its objective is to promote a strong flexible body and focused mind. The benefits of regular practice are almost immediate. You will sweat during practice, as this is necessary for elimination of toxins - an important aspect of this type of Yoga. At the same time your attention will be focused inwards, so you will have a deep and effective relaxation at the end of the session. Regular practice of Ashtanga Yoga will result in improved cardiovascular ability, physical strength, flexibility, breath control, balance muscle tone and loss of excess weight.
BEGINNER/GENERAL ASHTANGA CLASSES: are a fixed series of talked through poses simplified to suit the absolute beginner to those with more experience.
The classes incorporate breath, vinyasa (connecting poses), sun salutes and the bandhas (locks). The emphasis will be on flow and perfecting techniques. Each class will finish with breathing and relaxation.
ASHTANGA VINYASA YOGA - MYSORE CLASS: Mysore is the name given to the traditional way of teaching Ashtanga yoga. This style of class enables the student to practice individually, alongside other members of the class. You will receive one on one attention and guidance while moving at your own pace and rhythm ( not a talk through led class). The teacher will give adjustments and add new poses as she sees appropriate for each student. It is not necessary to remember the Ashtanga Primary Series when you first come to this class.
YOGALATES
Yogalates works to combine core strengthening with a full body stretch to create a perfect balance of strength and flexibility in the body. We will intertwine a series of yoga asana with several elements of the classical Pilates method, in order to encourage core initiation in all of our outward motion. This will help us to find a deeper expression within all of our asanas, strengthen our core, encourage spinal alignment in our postures, and create overall harmony within the physical body.

Private Classes
In the private class, your teacher will work with you to develop a personalised 20 minute home yoga practice including written notes describing sequences and postures and breathing practise associated with the yoga sequence. These classes are personalised to meet your individual needs.
