Natural health centre, Elementa aims to bring complementary medicine into the 21st century by bringing together a number of wellness therapies for both mind and body and housing them in a contemporary setting.

Based in Remuera, Auckland, Elementa offers a range of therapies from naturopathy, nutrition, massage, kinesiology to NLP, organic facials and skincare treatment and cranial sacral osteopathy.

The centre includes a natural health store which stocks high quality supplements and herbal dispensary which stocks supplements, herbal medicines, offers health and wellness seminars.

Elementa's owner, Sheena Hendon says that the centre gives many New Zealanders / Aucklanders something she wanted herself - a contemporary natural health centre which meet most if not all of my health and wellbeing needs.

She describes it as a funky one-stop-shop for natural healthcare.

"People have become so busy they don't want to have to go from one health practitioner to another to find the answers to their health needs - be it prevention or cure,"  she says.

"Additionally, they want to enjoy coming for their treatments and consultations, so environment and service are paramount."

Elementa works differently to other natural health centres in a number of ways.

"All our highly qualified and skilled therapists work together as a team to come up with an individually tailored healthcare plan for each client." Sheena says. "This may entail using treatments and therapists at elementa or external to the centre.

"Clients benefit because they are not being offered conflicting advice, by a number of health practitioners, which can get confusing." Sheena says. "By working together our therapists offer clients a more convenient, easy, simple and improved client service, as well as increasing treatment success which can potentially lead to reduced long-term health costs and a better quality of life"

Hendon says that elementa is not a spa or resort type place where you come to be pampered. "Yes we do provide therapies that aim to assist in stress and relaxation but our sole focus is work with people to reach or maintain optimum health and wellbeing of mind and body."

When it comes to the centre itself forget images of crystals, incense and dark, cluttered consultation rooms at the back of the therapists house. When you step through elementa's doors you step into, orange and green furnishings, and bright, funky lighting.

"We aim to bring natural therapy in to the 21st century and the centre's décor reflects this. The therapy rooms themselves are painted in muted, peaceful tones whereas the common areas create an atmosphere of vitality and vigour.

"We believe in combining both orthodox medicine - GPS, physiotherapists and the like, with natural medicine, recognising that there is a growing trend to combine conventional and complementary medicine as it becomes clear that no one system of medicine has the answer to every medical problem. So by knowing about both we can help our clients get the best results."

Sheena says that clients seem to be more than pleased with the centre.

"We have great feedback - people love the environment, enjoy the community environment, treatments and consultations and are getting great results."
