MASSAGE AT ELEMENTA...
The power of touch is often missing in our busy lives. Bodywork restores balance and wellbeing, releases muscular tension and enables your body to move with greater ease. It encounters the effects of stress, anxiety and lack of rest and facilitates the flow of energy. Research also shows that bodywork can relieve common complaints from snoring to infant colic.

TREATMENTS IN DETAIL:
Therapeutic massage
Therapeutic massage Uses a variety of techniques to release deep areas of tension, realign muscle groups, relieve strains and injuries and to gently move the body back to equilibrium. We stimulate the body's deep tissue by use of firm massage strokes, neuromuscular techniques and gentle manipulation and stretching. This massage can sometimes be slightly uncomfortable as the therapist applies pressure with thumbs and, occasionally, elbows, to tension areas to release the agitated muscle fibres. The slight discomfort is short-lived and the sense of relief is worth the effort!

Relaxation massage
A classic. Using Swedish massage techniques over the entire body. Massage is a medium to light pressure with the result of the client slipping into a deep state of restorative relaxation.

Sports Therapy
Working with clients at any level of sporting achievement to enable them to better achieve their goals using massage and stretching techniques. Whilst clients are in their base training stages, sports massage can address issues such as injuries or weaknesses using therapeutic massage strokes. Once in a competitive phase, we can offer both pre and post event massage. This stage of massage tends to be more sport specific concentrating on one particular area of the body.

Back and neck massage
Great if you are short of time and need a quick de-stressor.

Pregnancy massage
Nurture yourself and your baby with this soothing massage performed on a body pillow or having you lying on your side for comfort. We recommend blending reflexology and massage into one session for pregnancy. Reflexology is restorative and balancing for expectant mums and deeply relaxing. It is particularly useful when oedema in the ankles is present. Although safe and highly regarded by the medical profession, massage is not recommended for the first trimester of pregnancy. (see separate leaflet for more details on ante and post-natal massage).

Aromatherapy massage
With origins dating back 5000 years, Aromatherapy is truly one of the oldest methods of holistic healing. It is used for the relief of pain, to alleviate tension and fatigue and invigorate or relax the entire body. Blends of oils are made for each individual client depending on their current needs. When used in massage the oils have a powerful effect. We have had particular success treating insomnia, PMS and bloating with this modality. Elementa Practitioner, Megan Johnson is a fully qualified aromatherapy massage therapist

Hot stone therapy
Hot stones, sourced from New Zealand, are placed on vital energy points and used during throughout the massage. This truly holistic experience will benefit both mind and body. The stones have a wonderful energy. They are very grounding, and for especially useful for those clients who find it hard to relax. The heat from the stones is very beneficial for tired and stressed muscles, as the stones, used as massage tools, smooth out the muscle fibres, whilst delivering a warming glow deep into the muscle structure.

Getting to the sole of it - reflexology
Performed fully dressed, reflexology - massage of the feet - is based on similar ideas to acupuncture. The theory is that the feet provide clues to what is going on in the body, with certain areas linked to internal organs, Reflexology can detect such things as issues with liver, heart and digestive function, can be especially useful for digestive problems such as constipation and can also help with depression. The method releases endorphins into the body, which may reduce any pain present and create a calming effect. Some clients have regular sessions as a form of preventive medicine, while others may book a course to help them with a particular condition or as part of a detoxifying programme.

Lymphatic drainage
Inactivity, allergies or illness can cause congestion in the lymphatic system and lead to fluid retention and an overall sense of sluggishness. Lymphatic drainage relieves this, boosts the immune response, shifts fatty deposits, eliminates toxins, promotes circulation and increases energy.

Healing energy - reiki
Reiki is one of the more widely known forms of energy healing. Energy healing involves direct application of chi for the purpose of strengthening the client's energy system (aura) and healing the body. A reiki healing is very simply performed. The practitioner places his or her hands over or upon the person to be healed with the intent for healing to occur, and then the energy begins flowing.
